MOUNTAIN HOUSE

Construction front.jpg

This custom home was completed in the Spring of 2020 in the mountains of Utah. Built to be a primary residence, the owner wanted a dramatic entrance and to maximize views up the mountain. The design features secret rooms, hidden doors, a gym, and playrooms for a kid-friendly home. The exterior blends multiple materials, patterns, and elements to break down the scale of the facades without clashing into a mismatch patchwork.

12th AVENUE HOUSE

Front View 2 .jpg

This is a concept house that was designed for the downtown area of Pensacola, FL. The house uses the small narrow lot with efficiency to maximize the space. The form of the house sets it apart from the proposed neighborhood but was developed from existing site conditions. The larger wing of the butterfly roof is fitted with photovoltaic cells and is oriented to capture the maximum amount of sunlight. This design also provides an airy open living space. The all-glass living area makes the small footprint and small site feel much larger. I also designed screens to provide privacy with all the windows.

DENTON HALL

IMG_0885.JPG

This renovation of an existing 60-year-old multi-purpose room on the University of Maryland campus was designed as an energetic and exciting space for students. The client wished to activate the room but also allow for separate areas for study and eating. The large open area was an opportunity to add a dramatic effect to the ceiling without compromising the utility and flexibilty of the space. The design concept was developed from the geography of the building’s namesake (Denton, MD). The ceiling element mimics the undulation of the Choptank River as it curls around the city. The other imposing factor of the design were various mechanical and plumbing elements that lay above the ceiling which required access. The combination of paramenters fit together with the concept to produce an exciting element for students to enjoy. This reonvation was completed in 2017.

BEACH HOUSE

complete front.JPG

This is a new residence that was completed in mid-2009 on Ono Island, AL. I designed this house while employed at Caldwell Associates Architects. As a 7,000sf beach house, it was designed to accommodate entertaining and maximizing the views of the Gulf of Mexico. The site had many advantages due to the natural rise in grade and the location of two sand dunes. Using the dunes as a gateway, as one enters the home you immediately are given a view of the water. The main Living Room is accented by large exposed cypress trusses and surrounded on three sides with windows. Separated from the main house by the narrow entry the Master Bedroom includes its own porch. The open plan of the main floor allows for continuous flow between the Living Areas, dining room, and kitchen. The second floor includes two large bedrooms, a second master suite, and a game room. The third floor is the featured lookout tower. With windows on all four sides that

stretch from the floor, the tower leaves no part of the island unseen. The house is constructed

using ICF to maximize energy efficiency and hurricane resistance.

TAMPA RESIDENCES

While in school at the University of South Florida, I designed houses at the firm of Dykes Johnson Architects. I completed 6 different residential projects in the four years in the area. These houses ranged in size and style from 2,000sf to 8,000sf. Most of the houses were designed in the South Florida Mediterranean vernacular. However, one was a Tuscan-inspired villa. All the homes were constructed using CMU due to its strength and availability in the area.

CROFTON ADDITION

This is an addition to an existing residence in the Crofton, Md area. The construction documents were recently completed and contractors are submitting bids. The new 1,100sf offers a larger family room, new kitchen and a custom built breakfast nook on the First Floor with 2 new bedrooms, a craftroom and a bathroom on the Second Floor. The existing spaces will be remodeled to include a new Dining Room, study area, and Mud Room. The lower floor features an open plan with minimal barrier between the Family room Kitchen and Dining Room. The Kitchen uses skylights to brighten the space and maximize options for cabinets.
